I'm interested in the wireless burrowscopes being marketed in wellington.  I see there is also a paper on them in the latest issue of Field Ornithology.  Will discuss more when I'v e learnt more

Hi Pete,

So did you ever find out more? We've been borrowing one from Lincoln University, its from Sextant Technologies. It is a Taupe wireless burrowscope that runs on batteries. It has a 2m hose on it and runs at a distance of 3m from the screen. The screen is very clear, the only improvement I would make is the screen is very small, 5x4cm, so would like a bigger version. Not sure what the total cost was.

We purchased one based on the Taupe and constructed by Sextant Technologies.  I can give you contact details. It was expensive but stainless construction - a very good image and good people to deal with.

Hi Guys,

Does anyone hire out burrowscopes?   We dont need one very often so hard to justify expense and like bat detectors would be great to hire from someone when/if req'd.

Steve, Good query.  Why not start with Stu Cockburn who manages the electronics workshop for DOC or with Phil Bradfield who holds the one we use for Huttons shearwater.  Any hire arrangement would need to ensure that gear maintenance was covered.
