New Zealand Nature Sites?
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:29:39 AM »
Greetings all,

I'm a nature lover from Florida, here to learn about New Zealand.  There are so many wonderful places in the world that I'll likely never be able to visit in person, the net is great for virtual visits.

Given my near complete ignorance of New Zealand, I'm seeking introductory information about NZ's natural areas, wildlife etc.

If you would care to suggest additional New Zealand nature sites and blogs that you find valuable, I would read with grateful appreciation.   Links (or uploads) of NZ nature photos and videos also welcomed.

If you will, imagine that I'm a tourist that just got off the plane, and I haven't a clue where to go, what to see etc.   Show me around?

Many thanks!

Hi there,

Well, you should of course have a look at the Department of Conservation website

www.doc.govt.nz - and if you're interested in nature, check under 'conservation' and find out more about our native species.

The royal forest and bird protection society has a good website too
www.forestandbird.org.nz

and they also have a blog
http://blog.forestandbird.org.nz/

The Te Ara online encyclopedia of New Zealand is also a great source of information about NZ, go to the "Bush" section
http://www.teara.govt.nz/TheBush/en

They're just a few to get you started. I'm sure other members will have plenty more ideas.
Enjoy your virtual visit!
 ;)
