Kiwi vs stoat article on Scientific American site
« on: April 16, 2009, 08:28:54 AM »
There's an article on the scientific American website titled - Kiwi vs. Stoat: National symbol of New Zealand endangered by voracious species.  Apparently sourced from an Australian newspaper it has a couple of errors (stoats=weasels) and a photo of a stoat doing a gopher impression, but it's a positive article about conservation.

Yeah a neat little article, thanks for posting the link Dave, it is always good to see these sorts of stories getting published outside NZ.

Actually they are not errors  ;) the name 'weasel' is generally used for all three species of mustelid (Mustela erminea, M. nivalis & M. frenata) native to North America, and the 'gopher pose' is not unusual...in fact the photographer did really well to capture it ...that picture is definitely a keeper ;D
Cheers
