Just tripped over this website about Kaupapa Kererū - an iwi-lead, community based, multi-agency project that was set up in 2000 to increase the numbers and range of kererū or the New Zealand Native Pigeon on Te Pataka o Rakaihautū / Banks Peninsula, Canterbury.
Hasn't been updated in a wee while but does have some good resources on it.
