Colin Miskelly is looking for any information on the impacts of little owls on native biodiversity, and on threatened species in particular.
Little owls were introduced to Otago and Canterbury about 100 years ago, and are a common if inconspicuous predator in the open country of the eastern South Island. There are no confirmed records from the North Island, but we now have a plausible 'heard' record from Masterton, by Aalbert Rebergen (Forest & Bird field officer, formerly of Otago Regional Council and DOC).
Colin needs to decide whether to put resources into confirming the record, organising a delimiting survey, and/or initiating an eradication campaign, so any information is appreciated.
