Karearea sighting in Riverhead

I'm interested in following up a recent sighting of a juvenile Karearea near the Riverhead State Forest - was wondering if anyone else has seen anything in that vicinity of late?
I am due to start a MSc at Auckland Uni on Karearea dispersal behaviour in the coming new year so am keen to follow up any leads . You can post your replys here or email me direct at alexschanzer@mac.com        - thanks for your help!

You could have a look on eBird and see if there are any records for falcon this far north.

Hi Bruce, yes already done that, but thanks for the suggestion.
There was a sighting reported in Muriwai, but that was alittle while ago, but i'm off upto Riverhead forest myself in the next few days to have a look - big area but from historical work done i have an idea where they might be - if they are there!

Sightings in North Auckland seem to have been consistent but not numerous over the years. 
I recorded a falcon at Orewa over pines just west of the Orewa offramp where SH1 intersects with Grand Drive and submitted it to the 2006-09 Falcon Survey.  Have you been in touch with Dave Bell?  I imagine he has access to all the raw data that went into the 2006-09 Falcon Survey (Bell and Lawrence Notornis 2009) and more recent data submitted since then.

Yes i have , he was the one who alerted me to the Riverhead sighting initially. I'm getting reports from the Hunua Ranges area also so as we get into the nesting season hopefully these will be able to be substantiated.
