The 8th Oamaru Penguin Symposium will be held in Oamaru, New Zealand, on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th of July 2012. The meeting will focus on the penguins of New Zealand, Australia and their Sub-Antarctic Islands.
Venue: We have a new venue for the symposium in 2012, the Oamaru Opera House. Built over a century ago, the Opera House has been restored and is now a popular venue for entertainment, meeting space and conferencing in North Otago. It is located in the heart of Oamaru township on Thames Street.
Registration: The cost is $115 per person to attend, which includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea both days. Attendance for one day only will be $60. There will be a dinner on the Thursday night also at the Opera House; the cost for this will be $40 per person. A field trip visiting both the nearby Yellow-Eyed Penguin colony and the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is included.
Accommodation: Oamaru has a wide range of accommodation, much within easy walking distance of the venue. Visit Tourism Waitaki’s website to find out about available accommodation:
http://www.visitoamaru.co.nz/accommodation.aspx Presentations: Those interested in presenting an oral or poster paper at the symposium will need to submit an abstract to the convenor before the 15th of June. To aid planning, early submission of abstracts will be greatly appreciated. It is hoped that abstracts of all presentations will be available for inclusion in the Symposium abstract book and publication in the NZ Journal of Zoology as symposium proceedings. Although the primary focus is penguins of New Zealand, Australia and their Sub-Antarctic Islands, any penguin-related papers will be considered.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year !!!
