Some news from the folks at Connovation ...

We have just heard from the ACVM registration people to advise they are happy with the new Feracol labels.  FeracolŪ is now registered for the control of rats.  FeracolŪ offers a good alternate to 1080 and Brodifacoum with a low risk of secondary poisoning or bio accumulating.

The effectiveness of FeracolŪ, a possum control paste bait containing 0.8% cholecalciferol has been assessed as a rodenticide firstly in cage trials and then in field trials.   Field trials confirmed the effectiveness of FeracolŪ as a product that can kill rats, which is consistent with the use of cholecalciferol in the USA as a rodenticide for 25 years.   It is therefore an alternative to anticoagulants or suitable for integrated use with anticoagulants to reduce reliance on these bio accumulative poisons.

The products for rats are exactly the same as for possums (Paste, Strikers, and Defenders) and new labels will come into effect soon.

Here are two links to papers on the effectiveness of FeracolŪ for rats.
